NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court reviewed the Viksit Bharat Yatra, an initiative by the Central government, which was challenged for its political connotations. The Court heard arguments from Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma, representing the Central government, who emphasized that the scheme was devoid of any political affiliations or insignias.

ASG Sharma argued,

“It is the scheme of the government and does not carry any political insignia, political name or reference… This is a purely agnostic scheme of the government for the benefit of the people.”

He stressed that the Viksit Bharat Yatra was not designed to promote any political person or party and was entirely focused on developmental goals and public welfare.

Further bolstering his argument with data, Sharma noted the extensive reach and impact of the yatra. He detailed that the yatra had traversed thousands of villages across all 34 states and Union Territories, engaging over 11.94 crore people.

These meetings were pivotal in disseminating information about various government schemes and collecting feedback from the populace.

“Once the yatra goes through a village, there will be feedback. We will get to know where we have performed well and where we have lagged,”

Sharma explained.

The data presented in court illustrated the massive scale and participatory nature of the Viksit Bharat Yatra, highlighting its role in enhancing governmental transparency and accountability through direct engagement with citizens.

The Delhi High Court’s proceedings on this matter have shed light on the nature of the Viksit Bharat Yatra, reaffirming the government’s stance that it is a non-political initiative aimed purely at the betterment of the populace and the efficient implementation of government policies.
