The CBI opposed Jaideep Sengar’s plea in the Delhi High Court seeking a three-month extension of interim bail linked to the custodial death of the Unnao rape survivor’s father. It alleged all his cancer-related medical documents were fabricated.

The CBI opposed a plea by Jaideep Sengar, brother of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Sengar, in the Delhi High Court.
Sengar sought a three-month extension of his interim bail concerning the custodial death of the father of the Unnao rape survivor. The 50-year-old Sengar, who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison related to this case, claimed he was suffering from oral cancer.
The CBI’s counsel stated that it wasn’t an appropriate case for extending interim bail and alleged that the medical documents provided by Sengar were not genuine, but rather fabricated.

The counsel remarked that Sengar should have approached the court “well within time for any extension.”
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma granted an extension of the interim bail to Jaideep Sengar until February 20 and instructed the CBI to submit a detailed verification report.
The court said,
“The CBI has also not filed a verification report. Please file a detailed verification report,”
The court added,
“You have to tell me whether this man is suffering to the extent that he deserves an extension. If he is not, you have to give me a clear report Whether this is genuine or not. Whether this man is critically ill or not critically ill,”
In his application, Jaideep Sengar stated that he was diagnosed with Stage IV oral cancer, a severe condition that has recently shown clinical signs of recurrence, necessitating ongoing specialized medical care. His plea highlighted that he has spent approximately four years in custody.
The high court initially granted him interim bail on July 3, 2024, which has been extended multiple times since.
Kuldeep Sengar was convicted of raping the Unnao survivor and sentenced to life imprisonment on December 20, 2019. The survivor was allegedly kidnapped and assaulted by Sengar in 2017 when she was a minor.
Following this, on March 13, 2020, both Kuldeep and Jaideep Sengar were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection to the custodial death of the survivor’s father.
The father was reportedly arrested at the behest of the accused under the Arms Act and died in custody on April 9, 2018, due to police brutality.
The trial court emphasized that no leniency could be shown for killing a family’s sole bread earner.
Their appeals against the trial court’s verdict are currently pending in the high court.
