Unnao Murder Case | Delhi High Court Extends Bail for Kuldeep Sengar’s Brother

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court today decided to extend the interim bail of Jaideep Sengar, the brother of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Sengar, until March 11. This case is related to the alleged murder of the Unnao rape survivor’s father while he was in police custody.

Justice Vikas Mahajan granted this extension on medical grounds, as Jaideep Sengar is suffering from mouth cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.

His lawyer requested the suspension of his 10-year jail sentence and urged the court to extend his interim bail until a final decision was made on the matter.

The lawyer informed the court that his earlier bail period was set to end on February 18.

The court then issued an order stating,

“Issue notice (to CBI). Let status report be filed. In the meanwhile, interim bail granted to the petitioner is extended till the next date of hearing. Renotify on March 11.”

Jaideep Sengar was earlier granted interim bail on July 3, 2024, and it was later extended on November 18. His brother, Kuldeep Sengar, was convicted in a separate case for raping the minor survivor and was sentenced to life imprisonment on December 20, 2019.

The minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by Kuldeep Sengar in 2017.

On March 13, 2020, a trial court sentenced Kuldeep Sengar and his brother Jaideep, also known as Atul Singh, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in the death of the rape survivor’s father while in police custody.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on them. According to the case details, the father of the rape survivor was allegedly arrested under the Arms Act at the request of the accused. While in custody, he died on April 9, 2018, due to police brutality.

During the trial, the court made it clear that no leniency could be given in a case where the sole bread earner of a family was killed. The appeals against the trial court’s judgment are still pending in the High Court.
