Mumbai: The Bombay High Court recently refused to allow Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, to travel abroad for a leisure vacation. The couple had requested the court to suspend the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against them in a Rs 60 crore fraud case, but their plea was rejected on Wednesday.

According to reports, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra had planned a short holiday in Phuket from 2 to 5 October, with confirmed bookings for both travel and accommodation. However, with the court’s refusal, their plans have been put on hold.

Advocates Niranjan Mundargi and Keral Mehta, representing the couple, argued before the court that both Shetty and Kundra had traveled abroad multiple times in the past despite an earlier case filed in 2021.

They emphasized that the couple had always returned to India and fully cooperated with investigators. The lawyers stated,

“They stressed that both had always returned to India and cooperated with investigators. The lawyers insisted that the same opportunity should be given now.”

However, the bench, consisting of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam A Ankhad, was not convinced by these arguments.

The judges instructed Public Prosecutor Mankunwar Deshmukh, appearing for the state, to file a formal reply.

In their petition, the couple also disclosed plans for multiple other foreign trips in the coming months. They mentioned that these trips were essential for both personal and professional reasons.

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra said that they need to be in Los Angeles between 21 and 24 October for work commitments.

Following this, they have scheduled visits to Colombo and the Maldives from 26 to 29 October to expand their hospitality business, Hotel Bastian.

Looking further ahead, their petition sought court approval for an international trip between 20 December 2025 and 6 January 2026. This visit to Dubai and London is intended for family reasons, as they plan to meet Raj Kundra’s parents.

The couple is facing legal issues linked to a Rs 60 crore cheating case involving their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt. Ltd. The case was filed by Deepak Kothari, Director of UY Industries Pvt. Ltd., who claimed that he was misled into investing in the company between 2015 and 2023.

According to his complaint, he provided Rs 60.48 crore as a loan under an investment agreement and alleged that Shilpa Shetty had given a personal guarantee for the deal.

Earlier, NDTV reported that Rs 15 crore of the alleged Rs 60 crore fraud was transferred to a company owned by Shilpa Shetty and that the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) was investigating the money.

However, her lawyer, Prashant Patil, strongly denied these claims, stating,

“According to IANS, he said that the news is false and compelled the actress to take legal action to protect her image and reputation.”
