BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on December 3, 2025, rejected a plea by former JD(S) legislator Prajwal Revanna seeking suspension of his life imprisonment in a rape case while his appeal is pending.

Revanna, who has been in custody since May 2024, was convicted by a Bengaluru trial court in August 2024 for allegedly raping a domestic worker. The case is part of multiple criminal complaints against him, following the leak of over 2,900 videos of alleged sexual assault on online platforms.

Senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, representing Revanna, argued that:

The defence also highlighted that Revanna’s party, JD(S), is not in power in Karnataka, countering claims that he could influence witnesses or tamper with evidence.

Revanna faces charges under multiple provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including:

He also faces charges under Section 66E of the IT Act, 2008, for violating privacy by sharing intimate images without consent.

The Karnataka High Court will continue hearing Revanna’s appeal. While his plea for interim bail was denied, the ongoing appeal will determine whether the life sentence will stand or be overturned.
