The Calcutta High Court is set to continue hearing the plea of the RG Kar rape-murder victim’s parents. They are demanding a deeper CBI investigation into the tragic case from August 9. The Supreme Court recently granted approval for the hearing to proceed. This has renewed hopes for justice and accountability in the case.

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court is set to resume hearing the plea from the parents of the RG Kar victim, seeking a further CBI investigation into the rape-murder case from August 9.
On Thursday, the matter was brought before Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, who was informed that the Supreme Court has clarified that the Calcutta High Court is authorized to hear the parents’ petition.
The High Court has scheduled the hearing for Monday.

A new lawyer, Advocate Shamim Ahmed, will represent the victim’s parents, taking over from Advocate Gargi Goswami, who previously represented them in the case. The legal issue arose when the parents filed a plea requesting the CBI to re-examine the conspiracy and destruction of evidence related to the August 9 incident.
The victim’s family believes that the trial court’s conviction of the accused, Sanjoy Roy, did not adequately address who conspired to murder their daughter or the attempts to destroy evidence.
In this context, both former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh and former Tala OC Abhijit Mondal were granted default bail by a lower court after the CBI failed to submit a charge sheet within the required 90 days.
The High Court informed the parents that, since the Supreme Court was already reviewing the case, it required clarification on whether it could proceed with the hearing.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court confirmed that the High Court has the authority to hear the matter. In their writ petition, the parents expressed their dissatisfaction with the CBI investigation and requested a “transparent investigation under the supervision of this court.”
The family is seeking periodic updates from the CBI to keep the High Court informed of their findings.
