Police Constable Killed in Road Rage: Petition Filed For Accused Wife in Delhi HC, Seeks Release of ‘Unlawful’ Detention

An advocate has filed a Habeas Corpus petition, seeking the release of an accused wife from unlawful detention.

New Delhi: Today(On Sept 30): A habeas corpus petition was mentioned before the Delhi High Court, concerning an alleged road rage incident in which a Delhi Police constable was killed. The petitioner’s counsel informed the court that the accused’s wife was taken into custody by Delhi Police following the incident.

The bench, led by Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, took note of the matter and scheduled a hearing for October 1 to assess the legality of the wife’s detention.

An advocate has filed a Habeas Corpus petition, seeking the release of an accused wife from unlawful detention.

The lawyer further claimed that while the accused fled the scene, his wife, a family member, was detained.

Background

In a tragic road rage incident that took place in the Nangloi area two days ago, Delhi Police constable Sandeep, aged 30, was killed after being dragged approximately 10 meters by a speeding vehicle. While the car involved has been seized, the driver remains at large.

CCTV footage from the vicinity captured key moments leading up to the event, aiding the ongoing investigation. The driver reportedly fled the scene after the incident, prompting a thorough police inquiry.

The incident unfolded when constable Sandeep, observing the driver’s reckless behavior, signaled for him to slow down. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, hitting Sandeep’s motorcycle from behind. Both Sandeep and his bike were dragged before crashing into another vehicle.
