A plea in the High Court seeks the cancellation of Nawab Malik’s bail, accusing him of threatening witnesses. Malik, who is running in the upcoming Maharashtra elections, was granted bail by the Supreme Court on medical grounds until his regular bail plea is decided by the High Court. Mumbai: A petition has been submitted to the Bombay High Court requesting the cancellation of the interim bail granted to Nawab Malik, a former Maharashtra minister and leader of the NCP Ajit Pawar faction, in a money laundering case.
Malik is running for the Maharashtra Assembly seat in the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency, with elections scheduled for November 20. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court on medical grounds in July, pending the resolution of his regular bail application before the Bombay High Court.

The plea for the cancellation of bail was filed by Samson Pathare, a Mumbai resident. In his petition, Pathare asserted that Malik’s actions violated the conditions set by the court when his interim bail was granted.
A plea has been filed seeking the cancellation of Nawab Malik’s bail, highlighting that he was granted medical bail on the grounds of kidney failure, requiring hospitalization and continuous treatment. However, the plea claims that Malik neither underwent surgery nor hospitalization as stated.
It further alleges that Malik, under the cover of his election campaign, has been “settling scores with witnesses” and “threatening them to alter their testimony” in violation of his bail conditions.
Malik was arrested on February 23, 2022, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), in connection with an investigation into fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s activities.

After a special PMLA court accepted the chargesheet in May 2022, Malik sought regular bail, but his plea was rejected by the Mumbai special court on November 30, 2022.
In August 2023, the Supreme Court granted Malik interim bail, which has since been extended. On July 30, the Supreme Court ruled that his medical bail would remain in effect until the Bombay High Court decides on his regular bail plea.
