Chennai: Nayanthara and Dhanush, two big stars of Tamil cinema, are now in a legal fight that has caught a lot of attention. Last year, Nayanthara openly criticized Dhanush for not giving her a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to use parts of their 2015 movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary.
This issue has now reached the court, with a hearing scheduled for later this month.
According to reports from media, the Madras High Court has set the hearing for January 22, 2025.
Justice Abdul Quddhose has called both parties to appear in court on that date and has firmly stated that no further delays will be allowed.
What Is the Legal Dispute About?
On November 16, 2024, Nayanthara wrote an open letter directed at Dhanush, accusing him of not granting permission to use scenes from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.
Nayanthara explained that during the making of her documentary, she sought Dhanush’s approval to include visuals from their 2015 movie. However, Dhanush denied her request and even sent her a legal notice, demanding Rs. 10 crore as compensation. In her letter, she expressed her frustration, saying,
“This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches in front of your innocent fans but clearly you do not practice what you preach, at least not for me and my partner.”
In response, Dhanush filed a civil case in the Madras High Court against Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan, and Netflix. He accused them of using unauthorized footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in their documentary.
