Today, On 25th June, Jet Airways’ Naresh Goyal, aged 75, approached the High Court seeking an extension of his interim medical bail. Goyal’s plea highlights that his health remains poor and he recently lost his wife to cancer on May 16. The extension request is based on these ongoing health concerns.

Mumbai: Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal approached the Bombay High Court to request an extension of his two-month interim medical bail. The high court initially granted him interim bail on May 6 due to medical reasons, following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case.

The 75-year-old Goyal now filed an application for the bail extension, citing his deteriorating health and the recent loss of his wife to cancer on May 16.

The application presented on Tuesday before Justice Manish Pitale. The court referred to a circular issued in February, which states that applications where previous pleas reviewed and decided by a specific judge should be assigned to the same bench.

Justice Manish Pitale directed the registry department to assign Naresh Goyal‘s application to the single bench of Justice N J Jamadar, who initially granted the interim bail in May. Goyal’s lawyers, Aabad Ponda and Ameet Naik, stated,

“They plan to present the plea before Justice Jamadar on Wednesday.”

Goyal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in September 2023 on charges of laundering money and misappropriating loans amounting to Rs 538.62 crore, which provided to Jet Airways by Canara Bank. His wife, Anita Goyal, also arrested in November 2023 when the ED filed its chargesheet in the case.

She granted bail by the special court on the same day due to her age and health condition. Sadly, she passed away on May 16.

In September 2023, the ED arrested Goyal, accusing him of laundering funds and diverting loans totaling Rs 538.62 crore that, sanctioned to Jet Airways by Canara Bank. In November 2023, Goyal’s wife, Anita, was also taken into custody by the ED following the filing of a charge sheet.

However, she promptly granted bail by the special court due to her age and health condition. The ED’s investigation into the case highlights the allegations of financial misconduct within the now-defunct airline, Jet Airways, involving both Goyal and his wife.

In contrast to Naresh Goyal‘s situation, his wife, Anita Goyal, also implicated in the case, granted bail shortly after her arrest in November 2023. Her bail approved swiftly by the special court, citing her age and health conditions as mitigating factors.
