Bombay High Court has restrained Mumbai Police from filing a chargesheet in the Kannada Actor Dhruva Sarja cheating case, clearly stating that “chargesheet cannot be filed without Court’s approval,” as ruled by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam A Ankhad.

The Bombay High Court has prohibited the Mumbai Police from submitting a chargesheet against Kannada actor Dhruva Sarja in a cheating case.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam A Ankhad stated that the chargesheet cannot be filed without the Court’s approval.

Recently, a bench of Justices AS Gadkari and Rajesh S Patil had instructed Sarja to deposit Rs.3.10 crore with the court to demonstrate his good faith before considering his plea.

The case stems from an FIR lodged by the Mumbai Police last month, based on a complaint from Mumbai-based producer-director Raghvendra Hegde.

Hegde accused Dhruva Sarja (also known as Dhruva Kumar) of cheating and criminal breach of trust, asserting that between 2016 and 2018, he provided Rs.3 crore to Sarja for a film project titled ‘The Soldier.’

However, the project never came to fruition, and Sarja neither completed the film nor returned the funds.

With an interest rate of 18% per annum since 2018, Hegde claims that his total losses have exceeded Rs.9 crore.

Sarja’s legal team acknowledged the receipt of the Rs.3 crore but argued that no workable script was delivered until December 2023, maintaining that the delays were not due to the actor’s unwillingness to proceed.
