The judicial landscape of Madhya Pradesh has received a significant boost with the Central Government’s notification appointing seven new judges to the Madhya Pradesh High Court. This announcement, initially shared by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, on social media, marks a notable development in the efforts to fill the vacancies in the high court.

The formal notification, now available on the Union Department of Justice’s website, confirms the elevation of two advocates and five judicial officers to the position of High Court judges. The advocates,
- Vinay Saraf
- Vivek Jain
- Rajendra Kumar Vani
- Pramod Kumar Agarwal
- Binod Kumar Dwivedi
- Devnarayan Mishra
- Gajendra Singh
have been appointed following the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendations made on October 17.
The Collegium had initially recommended four advocates and five judicial officers for elevation. However, the Centre has, at this stage, approved the appointment of only two advocates out of the four recommended. The judicial officers, on the other hand, have all been elevated as per the Collegium’s proposal.
Before these appointments, the Madhya Pradesh High Court was functioning with 33 judges, a number significantly lower than its sanctioned strength of 53. With the induction of these seven judges, the strength of the court will increase, reducing the number of vacancies to 13 and thereby enhancing the court’s capacity to adjudicate cases.
The new appointments are expected to mitigate the challenges posed by the shortage of judges and are seen as a step towards addressing the backlog of cases that has been a persistent issue for the judiciary. The Madhya Pradesh High Court, with its increased bench strength, is now better positioned to deliver timely and effective justice to the people.

The legal fraternity and the citizens alike await the positive impact these appointments will have on the judicial proceedings and the overall dispensation of justice in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
