Haryana Police informed the Punjab & Haryana High Court that the Look Out Circular against rapper Badshah has been withdrawn in the obscene song case. With no further action planned and investigation joined, the Court closed the petition.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently brought closure to a petition filed by popular Punjabi rapper Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, widely known as Badshah, who had approached the Court challenging the directions issued against him by the Haryana State Commission for Women. The controversy arose over alleged vulgar lyrics in his Haryanvi song “Tateeree”.
The matter was heard by Justice Jagmohan Bansal, who disposed of the petition after taking note of the submission made by the Haryana Police. The State informed the Court that no coercive action would be taken against Badshah based on the Commission’s directions, especially since the rapper had already joined the ongoing investigation.
Earlier, the Haryana State Commission for Women had taken serious note of the song and directed the Superintendent of Police in Panipat to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the singer. The Commission had also instructed authorities to ensure his arrest in connection with summons issued on March 13.
During the hearing, it was brought to the Court’s attention that an FIR had already been registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Panchkula.
The case includes offences under Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, along with Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with obscene acts and songs.
The State further clarified that the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against Badshah had been withdrawn. In light of these developments, Badshah’s counsel decided not to press the petition further, leading to its disposal by the Court.
The controversy surrounding the song had also prompted Badshah to issue a public clarification earlier, stating that
“he never intended to talk badly about any child or woman.”
The legal team representing Badshah included Senior Advocate Pradeep Virk along with Advocates Akshay Kumar Dahiya and Kamal Jindal. On behalf of the State of Haryana, Additional Advocate General Ravish Kaushik appeared and presented the official stance.
This case highlights the growing legal scrutiny around content in music and digital platforms, especially when it involves allegations of indecent representation of women. At the same time, the Court’s approach reflects a balance between ensuring compliance with the law and protecting individuals from unnecessary coercive action during investigations.
