The Delhi High Court heard Karti Chidambaram’s plea seeking changes to his bail conditions to permit international travel amid the ongoing CBI investigation in the INX Media corruption case. The court has reserved its order.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court recently heard a plea by Karti Chidambaram seeking modification of his bail conditions to allow him to travel abroad in connection with the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) INX Media corruption case.
Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra, representing Chidambaram, argued before the court that the First Information Report (FIR) in the case dates back to 2017.
He pointed out that
“8 years have passed with investigation pending,”
highlighting the prolonged delay in concluding the matter.
On the other hand, CBI Special Public Prosecutor Anupam Sharma strongly opposed the request. He submitted that the “final order cannot be modified” as four cases are still pending against Chidambaram.
He emphasized that authorities “must watch movements to prevent tampering,” stressing the international nature of the investigation.
The court noted the CBI’s concerns, observing that the existing bail conditions already serve the purpose of preventing tampering.
The agency further contended that since it is an international case, the circumstances have worsened due to the four pending cases, making it crucial to maintain strict monitoring of Chidambaram’s movements.
Advocate Arshdeep Khurana, appearing for Karti Chidambaram, countered the CBI’s arguments by stating that courts “routinely modify travel conditions” for bail.
He maintained that the investigation is complete and clarified that Chidambaram was
“only seeking modification, not for 6 countries linked to cases.”
He further added that in the case of the Chinese visa, “only intimation condition applies,” and therefore, the current restrictions were “unnecessary.”
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the Delhi High Court has reserved its order on the matter, leaving parties to await the decision.
