The Delhi High Court directed the Election Commission of India to consider former BRS MLC K. Kavitha’s application for registering her political party, Telangana Praja Jagruti. The ECI told the court that her application would be decided “as soon as possible.”

The Delhi High Court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to consider former BRS MLC K. Kavitha’s application seeking registration of her political party, Telangana Praja Jagruti.

The ECI’s counsel informed the court that Kavitha’s application would be decided “as soon as possible.”

Kavitha’s lawyer told the court that the deficiencies identified by the ECI on February 23 have been rectified.

The court ordered,

“The present petition is disposed of while directing the Election Commission of India to consider the application filed by the petitioner,”

Kavitha’s counsel asked the court to instruct the ECI to decide the matter within four weeks, noting that local body elections in Telangana are expected to be announced in mid-April.

The court declined to set any deadline.

Advocate Sanjay Vashishtha, representing the ECI, opposed imposing a timeframe, saying the commission is handling elections nationwide.

In her petition, filed in the high court, Kavitha sought a directive for the ECI to process and dispose of her January 23 application for registration of Telangana Praja Jagruti under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, on an expedited, time-bound basis.

Kavitha was suspended from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) the party founded by her father and former Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in September 2025 after she accused her cousins and party leaders T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Kumar of “tarnishing” her father’s image over the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.

She resigned from the BRS soon after and announced her intention to contest the next state assembly elections under her own platform.

Since her suspension, Kavitha has been active on public matters under the banner of Telangana Jagruti.
