Mumbai: A shocking incident took place in Mumbai on Monday evening when a man tried to end his life by setting himself on fire outside the Bombay High Court premises, according to police officials.
The man has been identified as Prakash Sawant. He is a resident of Kankavali town in the coastal Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. The incident occurred in the evening hours, creating panic among people present near the High Court complex.

Police personnel deployed in the area, along with some passers-by, acted quickly after noticing the man in flames. They immediately intervened and managed to put out the fire, preventing the situation from becoming even more serious. Sawant was then rushed to a state-run hospital in south Mumbai for medical treatment.
Doctors at the hospital found that Sawant had suffered around 50 per cent burn injuries. His condition is being monitored, and he is currently undergoing treatment.
As per the preliminary investigation, the incident appears to be linked to a dispute between Sawant and a lawyer.

Police said that Sawant had allegedly paid Rs 80,000 to the lawyer for filing a case in the Bombay High Court. However, the case was not filed, which reportedly caused distress and frustration to Sawant.
The police believe that this disagreement over the non-filing of the case may have led Sawant to take the extreme step. Officials are looking into the exact circumstances that resulted in the incident and are verifying the claims made by Sawant regarding the payment and the lawyer’s role.
The Azad Maidan Police have registered the incident and are conducting a detailed investigation. They are recording statements of witnesses and collecting all necessary information to understand the sequence of events and to determine whether any legal action is required against those involved.
The incident has once again raised concerns about mental health stress, access to legal remedies, and the responsibility of legal professionals towards their clients.
