Justice Kempaiah Somashekar took oath as the new Chief Justice of Manipur High Court. The ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administering the oath.
Imphal: Today, On May 22, Justice Kempaiah Somashekar was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur on Thursday.
He becomes the ninth person to hold this prestigious post. The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
The official statement released by Raj Bhavan mentioned,
“Justice Kempaiah Somashekar was on Thursday sworn in as the ninth Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur.”
The oath of office was administered by the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla. The event was held with full dignity and in the presence of several key officials and dignitaries.
As per the official information,
“Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath of office to Justice Somashekar in the swearing-in ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal, it said.”
Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, who served earlier as a judge of the Karnataka High Court, was appointed to the new position by the President of India on May 20, 2025.
The Raj Bhavan statement further added,
“Justice Kempaiah Somashekar of Karnataka High Court was appointed as the Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur by the President of India on May 20.”
His appointment is seen as a positive step in strengthening the judiciary in the northeast region.
Justice Somashekar brings with him a vast experience from the Karnataka High Court, which is expected to benefit the Manipur High Court in terms of legal administration and speedy justice.
