A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Navneet Kumar dismissed an appeal against Justice Ananda Sen’s earlier order, which directed the state to conduct civic elections and announce the polling dates within three weeks.
The previous municipal elections took place in April 2018, and the councilors’ term expired in 2023.
Justice Sen issued the order on January 4 after considering a writ petition filed by former ward councilors, namely Roshni Khalko, Vinod Singh, Sunil Yadav, and Arun Jha, who expressed concern over the delay in conducting the municipal elections.
In response to the State Government’s appeal against the single judge’s order, the division bench refused to interfere with the previous decision.
