Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court, presided over by Justice Subramonium Prasad, has taken significant action by issuing a notice to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) concerning a disturbing allegation that over 70,000 kilograms of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh crore, have vanished from governmental seizure records between 2018 and 2020.
In response to this alarming claim, the court also directed both the Ministry of Finance and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) to submit their responses within a four-week timeframe.
The case, set to be revisited on September 9, originated from a petition filed by journalist BR Aravindakshan, who is demanding that the MHA conduct a thorough investigation into this serious discrepancy.
Aravindakshan’s plea specifically requests that the government provide detailed records concerning the methods used for the seizure and disposal of the drugs in question.
Highlighting a grave inconsistency, the petitioner pointed out that there are significant disparities between the heroin seizure data reported by the NCRB and the figures provided by the MHA for the years 2018 to 2020.
According to the petition, a staggering total of 70,772.544 kilograms of heroin has been unaccounted for during this period. The petition underscores the magnitude of this discrepancy, suggesting that if unaddressed, it could potentially lead to societal chaos.
“The Magnitude of Discrepancy is that large that it could probably lead to chaos in the society if the same is not being sorted out promptly. The petitioner had exhausted the possible forums for seeking clarification in this matter but however, (to) no avail till date,”
-the plea stated.
The petitioner has also expressed frustration over the lack of clarity and resolution, despite having approached various forums to seek answers regarding this matter, but to no avail. This case now awaits further developments as the respective government bodies prepare to respond to the High Court’s directives.
