Yesterday, On 20th September, The Delhi High Court has withdrawn judicial work from a district judge due to concerns about the judge’s conduct, including indiscipline, a low case disposal rate, and failure to adhere to court timings, according to sources. This decision reflects the judiciary’s commitment to maintaining discipline and efficiency within the court system.

The order from the High Court Registrar General dated September 19, stated,
“I am directed to say that the Hon’ble Acting Chief Justice and Judges of this Court have been pleased to order that judicial work be withdrawn with immediate effect from Mr. Aman Pratap Singh, an officer of Delhi Higher Judicial Service and presently posted as District Judge 1- South West, Dwarka, New Delhi,”

As per sources, the decision influenced by concerns regarding the judge’s lack of discipline, a low case disposal rate, and failure to maintain proper court timings.
A video showing the judge acting in an abrasive manner in the courtroom recently went viral on social media.
What likely accelerated the Delhi High Court’s decision was a video that surfaced on social media, showing the judge behaving in a brash and abrasive manner in the courtroom. The video, which quickly went viral, allegedly captured Singh engaging in inappropriate behaviour while presiding over a case. The footage sparked widespread criticism, with many calling into question the professionalism and temperament of the judge.
In the legal profession, judges are expected to maintain a decorum that reflects the dignity of the court. Any behaviour that undermines this decorum, especially when caught in the public eye, can significantly damage the judiciary’s reputation.
The viral nature of the video likely put additional pressure on the Delhi High Court to take swift action. In an age where social media can amplify individual incidents to a national or even global scale, institutions such as the judiciary are more susceptible to public scrutiny than ever before. The incident raised concerns not only about Singh’s individual conduct but also about the broader accountability of judges in maintaining ethical and professional standards.

The Delhi High Court’s decision to withdraw the judicial duties of Singh reflects the importance of maintaining high standards of professionalism, efficiency, and decorum within the judiciary. While the exact consequences for Singh are yet to be fully determined, the case underscores the growing demand for accountability within India’s legal system, especially at a time when public trust in institutions is paramount.
As the judiciary continues to face challenges in addressing backlogs and maintaining its reputation, cases like this serve as a reminder that even those in positions of power must adhere to the highest standards of conduct.
