The High Court is set to rule on Tuesday regarding the Enforcement Directorate’s plea to stay Arvind Kejriwal’s bail. The ED has sought this action as part of its ongoing investigation. The court’s upcoming decision will be pivotal in determining the course of legal proceedings.
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court will deliver its verdict on Tuesday regarding the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea to stay the trial court’s order that granted bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise scam.
The ruling is set to be announced at 2:30 p.m.

A vacation bench led by Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain reserved the order on June 21, following the agency’s challenge to the trial court’s decision, which has been on hold pending this verdict.
Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP’s national convenor, arrested by the ED on March 21. He remained in Tihar jail due to the high court’s interim relief granted to the central anti-money laundering agency, preventing his release.
The trial court granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal on June 20, setting his release on a personal bond of Rs.1 lakh with conditions, such as not interfering with the investigation or influencing witnesses.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) argued that the trial court’s decision “perverse,” “one-sided,” and “incorrect,” claiming the conclusions based on irrelevant factors.
Also, The Supreme Court postponed the hearing of Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging the Delhi High Court’s stay on his bail until June 26. This decision made as the Supreme Court awaits the High Court’s final ruling on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea contesting Kejriwal’s bail in the Delhi excise policy case.
The Supreme Court remarked on the “unusual” manner in which the High Court handled the case, noting that the High Court reserved its order instead of delivering it immediately. The Supreme Court stressed that it would avoid making the same alleged “mistake” by not staying the High Court’s decision without the final order being issued.
The Supreme Court stated,
“We will wait for the Delhi High Court to pronounce its final order on the ED’s plea challenging the bail granted to Arvind Kejriwal,”
This approach underscores the Court’s commitment to ensuring due process, despite its concerns over the High Court’s handling of the case.

The next hearing scheduled for June 26, with the Supreme Court’s decision hinging on the High Court’s interim ruling.
The controversial excise policy scrapped in 2022 following a directive from the Delhi lieutenant governor for a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities and corruption in its creation and implementation. Both the CBI and ED allege that irregularities occurred during the modification of the excise policy, with undue advantages given to license holders.
