Prayagraj: Today, On May 23, The Allahabad High Court has decided to continue its earlier order stopping the government authorities from demolishing the Medina Masjid located in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

The Court took this decision on Friday, May 23, as the case is still under consideration and not all arguments have been completed.

Earlier, on April 17, Justice Manish Nigam had passed an order to temporarily stop the demolition of the mosque and had also asked the state government to file a response in this matter.

The Court had fixed the deadline of May 23 for this temporary stay.

However, when the case was heard again on Friday, it was observed that the legal pleadings were not completed.

Due to this, the judge decided not to go ahead with the hearing and instead postponed it to the third week of July.

Meanwhile, Justice Manish Nigam said that the interim stay on the demolition will remain in force until the next hearing.

This means the authorities are still not allowed to take any action to demolish the Medina Masjid until the Court hears the full matter and gives a final decision.

The judge clearly stated:

“As pleadings were not completed when the matter was taken up, Justice Nigam ordered listing of the matter in the third week of July and extended the interim stay.”

The earlier order from April 17 had said:

“Justice Manish Nigam had stayed the demolition till May 23, seeking a reply from the state government.”

This legal development is important because it affects the future of a religious structure and is being closely watched by the local community and state officials.

The extension of the stay gives more time for both sides – the mosque authorities and the state government – to present their arguments and provide all necessary documents and evidence.

Until then, the Medina Masjid at Fatehpur cannot be demolished, as per the Allahabad High Court’s direction.
