A heated argument between a government lawyer and an advocate at a Gurugram court led to tensions between the Bar Association and the presiding judge. The judge criticized the behavior of the advocate and Bar members, prompting the Bar to file a complaint with the Punjab and Haryana High Court and boycott the court for two weeks. The dispute escalated during witness testimony, resulting in offensive language and a temporary suspension of the hearing. The Gurgaon District Bar Association passed a resolution condemning the incident and the JMIC’s reluctance to resolve the matter.

A heated argument between a government lawyer and an advocate during a court hearing in Gurugram led to significant controversy. Following this altercation, tensions developed between members of the Bar Association and the presiding judge.

The judge issued an order criticizing the conduct of the advocate and the Bar members. In response, the Bar Association has decided to file a complaint against the judge with the Punjab and Haryana High Court and to boycott his court for two weeks. Consequently, lawyers did not appear in his court on Friday.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) court, while reviewing the case, noted that despite being pending since 2015, no witness testimonies had been recorded. The delay was primarily attributed to the accused’s strategy of failing to appear on scheduled court dates.

After considering the prolonged delay, the judge instructed the government lawyer to proceed with recording witness statements. During this process, a heated exchange developed between the accused’s lawyer, Parvat Singh Thakran, and the government lawyer regarding certain documents.

The court’s order indicated that Thakran began using inappropriate language and making derogatory comments about the government lawyer. When the court intervened to remind Thakran to maintain decorum, he became increasingly agitated and accused the court of bias.

Advocate R.N. Yadav announced that the Bar Association has decided to formally complain about the judge to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking his immediate transfer from Gurugram. The Bar members will boycott the JMIC court for two weeks, starting January 31, and expressed their protest by wearing white bands.

According to the court’s order, the hearing had to be temporarily suspended as the dispute escalated. Thakran, along with a group of lawyers, resorted to using offensive language. District Bar Association President Amarjeet Yadav later led a warning of consequences from the lawyers.

On Thursday, the Gurgaon District Bar Association passed a resolution acknowledging that an unfortunate incident had occurred in the JMIC court. Bar President Amarjeet Yadav stated that despite attempts to reach a resolution, the JMIC displayed reluctance to maintain harmony with the Bar.
