The Delhi High Court will hear on August 25 AAP’s plea seeking government accommodation in the national capital for Arvind Kejriwal, its national convenor and former Chief Minister, after he vacated his official residence following resignation.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court held a brief hearing regarding a petition from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The party is requesting that the central government provide residential accommodation in the national capital for Arvind Kejriwal, its national convenor and former Chief Minister of Delhi.
Justice Sachin Datta has scheduled a more comprehensive hearing for August 25, prioritizing it on the court’s agenda.
During the hearing, Senior Advocate Rahul Mehra, representing AAP, argued that according to the Guidelines for Allotment of Accommodation from the General Pool to Political Parties, the president of a recognized national party is entitled to one government residence in Delhi, as long as they do not own a house or have been allotted one in another official capacity.
He stated,
“All pre-conditions are met. There is a national convenor, who is also the national president. We are requesting a centrally located residence.”

Mehra informed the court that AAP had initially contacted the authorities on September 20 of the previous year, followed by a reminder, but no action has been taken.
He also noted that a prior bench had provided the party with office space when it was in need, and the current request pertains to residential accommodation.
The petition highlights that Kejriwal vacated his official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road on October 4 after resigning as Chief Minister and has since been residing at another party member’s official accommodation near Mandi House.
