The Rajasthan High Court has extended self-styled godman Asaram’s interim bail till August 29 after reviewing his medical reports. A special doctor’s panel will examine his ‘critical’ health and submit a report by August 27.

Jodhpur: On August 11, the Jodhpur bench of the Rajasthan High Court gave more time to jailed self-styled godman Asaram, who is serving a life sentence for raping a minor girl at his gurukul. On Monday, the court extended his interim bail till August 29.

Asaram’s temporary bail was earlier set to end on August 12. However, the two-judge bench of Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Vineet Kumar Mathur decided to give him more time after going through his latest medical reports.

This decision comes just after the Gujarat High Court also extended his interim bail in a separate but similar case till August 21.

At present, Asaram is admitted to a hospital in Indore, and his health condition has been described as critical. The Rajasthan High Court took note of his health situation and gave further directions for a proper medical check-up.

The court has ordered the creation of a special panel of doctors from a government hospital in Ahmedabad to carry out a detailed health examination of Asaram. The panel must include both a cardiologist and a neurologist.

The judges also directed that the panel’s full medical report should be submitted to the court by August 27, which is two days before the extended bail period ends.
