On December 12, 2024, when Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP leader, announced the launch of the Delhi government’s scheme, promising to provide financial aid to women in the city. He mentioned that if AAP returned to power, the monthly stipend would be increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs. 2,100.

NEW DELHI: On January 10th, A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking directions for the Election Commission of India (ECI) to act on a complaint related to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s promise of giving Rs 2,100 to women voters under the Mahila Samman Yojana.

Justice Jyoti Singh adjourned the hearing to January 30 as the petitioner and his lawyer failed to appear before the Court. During a hearing on Thursday, the Bench had already raised questions about the maintainability of the petition.

The petitioner, Shiv Shankar Parashar, had earlier filed a complaint on January 3 with the ECI. His complaint raised objections against AAP’s announcement made during the ongoing campaign for the Delhi assembly elections. Parashar claimed that no action had been taken by the ECI regarding his complaint and has now approached the Delhi High Court for redressal.

The petition also sought a directive to the Chief Electoral Officer to stop AAP workers from collecting forms related to the supposed scheme.

According to the petitioner’s lawyer, “Women voters of Delhi would be affected if the complaint was not decided.”

Interestingly, the Delhi government recently issued a public notice clarifying that the Mahila Samman Yojana does not exist. The notice stated:

“The general public of Delhi are hereby advised and requested not to entertain such promises of a non-existent scheme, as these are misleading and without any authority. The general public is also advised to exercise abundant caution to not give out personal details to unauthorized personnel.”

The controversy started on December 12, 2024, when Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP leader, announced the launch of the Delhi government’s scheme, promising to provide financial aid to women in the city. He mentioned that if AAP returned to power, the monthly stipend would be increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs.2,100.

However, on December 25, 2024, the Women and Child Development and Health departments of the Delhi government issued public notices distancing themselves from the scheme, calling it non-existent.
