The Bombay High Court has ordered urgent action to fix the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner’s non-working website. The directive comes as government bodies blame each other for the failure.
Mumbai: Today, On May 25, The Bombay High Court has seriously taken note of the problems being faced by the public due to the non-functional website of the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner.
The Court has directed both the state government and the office of the Charity Commissioner to take urgent steps to make sure the website starts working properly and immediately.

According to the charity commissioner’s office, they are unable to properly run the website because they are not getting any support or assistance from the state government.
On the other hand, Maharashtra Information Technology Corporation Ltd (commonly known as MAHA IT), which works under the state government, said that the real problem is that the charity commissioner’s office has not given them the necessary technical details to help solve the issue.
A division bench of the Bombay High Court, consisting of Justice Girish Kulkarni and Justice Advait Sethna, heard this matter earlier this month and passed a clear direction.
They said that an officer from the charity commissioner’s office must be deputed to directly coordinate with MAHA IT so that all the technical and operational issues related to the website can be fixed without any further delay.
The judges observed that there are “serious problems” with the functioning of the website and it is important that both departments cooperate properly to make the website useful again for public service.
The Court noted that the citizens are facing difficulty in accessing important information and services related to trusts and charities because the website is not functioning.
In light of this, the Court stressed the need for immediate coordination between the Charity Commissioner’s office and the technical team at MAHA IT.
Quoting the bench, the order clearly pointed out the concern:
“serious problems”.
They further ordered:
“The charity commissioner’s office to depute an officer to liaise with the MAHA IT to ensure all issues regarding the website were addressed.”
This direction by the Bombay High Court highlights the importance of smooth online services, especially when it involves public access to important regulatory functions like those handled by the Charity Commissioner.
