NEW DELHI: Today (22nd July): The Central Government informed the Delhi High Court on Monday that a high-level committee has been formed to investigate the roof collapse at Terminal 1 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which resulted in one fatality.
A Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela was told that the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation had established this committee, including experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.
The Court learned that the government had acknowledged the incidents at the airports in Delhi, Jabalpur, and Rajkot, directing all airport operators nationwide to conduct third-party audits of airport buildings through institutions like IIT.
Additionally, the government directed airport operators to conduct thorough evaluations of the civil, electrical, and technical aspects of airport buildings annually, before the onset of the monsoon season.
An FIR has been registered for the offence of causing death due to negligence.

This information was provided by the Central government in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the recent airport mishaps.
The PIL was filed following heavy rains that caused roof collapses at the airports in Delhi, Jabalpur, and Rajkot, with the collapse at Delhi airport on June 27 leading to one death and eight injuries.
It was argued that these three incidents raised concerns about the structural integrity of the country’s airports.
After reviewing the Centre’s response and the measures taken, the High Court closed the PIL.
