Centre Approves New Elevation | Vinai Kumar Dwivedi Appointed as Allahabad High Court Judge

The Centre has approved the elevation of Judicial Officer Vinai Kumar Dwivedi as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court, following the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation, strengthening the bench and boosting judicial capacity in Uttar Pradesh.

Centre Approves New Elevation | Vinai Kumar Dwivedi Appointed as Allahabad High Court Judge

PRAYAGRAJ: The Union government has officially notified the appointment of Judicial Officer Vinai Kumar Dwivedi as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law & Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, announced the appointment on X, stating:

“In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint Shri Vinai Kumar Dwivedi, Judicial Officer, as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court. I convey my best wishes to him.”

This appointment comes shortly after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Dwivedi’s elevation on October 6, 2025.

The central government has been actively working to fill judicial vacancies nationwide. Recently, the appointment of 24 new judges to the Allahabad High Court was cleared, marking a significant step toward reducing case pendency and enhancing the overall efficiency of the judicial system.

With Dwivedi’s appointment, the Allahabad High Court is now functioning with 105 judges, against a sanctioned strength of 160.

Background of Vinai Kumar Dwivedi

Vinai Kumar Dwivedi is a seasoned judicial officer in Uttar Pradesh, India, with extensive experience in family law and land acquisition matters. He is currently serving as the District & Sessions Judge in Basti, a position he assumed following a transfer from Muzaffarnagar in November 2024.

Before this, Dwivedi held the role of Principal Judge, Family Court, Kushinagar at Padrauna from July 5, 2018, to October 30, 2019. He also served as the Presiding Officer of the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation & Resettlement Authority in Basti from October 31, 2019, to November 9, 2020.

In October 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his elevation to the Allahabad High Court, recognizing his professional competence and contributions to the judiciary
