New Delhi: Today, on July 14, in a major development in the Indian judiciary, the Central Government issued a notification approving the transfer of 16 High Court judges across different states. These transfers were made following the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium on May 26.

According to officials, this move is aimed at improving the efficiency of the judiciary and addressing the unique needs of different regions.

Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma is also returning to his parent Rajasthan High Court from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He had earlier served in Patna due to medical issues.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh has been transferred from the Kerala High Court to the Karnataka High Court. Earlier, his transfer from his parent court had triggered a strong response from the Awadh Bar Association, which had refused to felicitate him due to concerns regarding his behavior.

The Association had reportedly raised objections about the manner in which “certain judicial actions were perceived” during his previous postings.

Justice Vivek Kumar Singh is being moved from the Madras High Court to the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Enrolled in 1987 and elevated in 2017, he had earlier served at the Allahabad High Court.

He previously served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. His experience is regarded as “vast and significant in both judicial leadership and case handling.”

Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, who served at the Gauhati High Court, has now been transferred to the Calcutta High Court. He was elevated in 2013 and has earlier worked in both the Manipur and Gauhati High Courts.

This sweeping reshuffle is seen as an effort by the judiciary to distribute legal expertise more evenly and address regional imbalances. It also reflects the Supreme Court Collegium’s attempt to enhance judicial administration by placing experienced judges where their presence is most required.
