A Calcutta High Court lawyer faced protests in the Bengal Primary Recruitment Case, with demonstrators accusing them of “eating the job.”

KOLKATA: Today, April 30th: Lawyer Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya faced a heated protest by a group of controversial job recipients outside the Calcutta High Court. The incident occurred following a hearing on a case related to primary recruitment corruption. The protesters accused Bhattacharya of being complicit in unfair hiring practices, claiming that he was “eating the job.” The situation was eventually brought under control by the police.

The Calcutta High Court’s Justice Rajashekhar Manthar bench heard the matter of corruption in the primary recruitment process.
Background
The matter followed the 2014 TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) exam, which saw the appointment of approximately 42,500 individuals in 2016 and 2020. However, some job aspirants, including Rahul Chakraborty, filed a complaint asserting that illegal appointments were made in the 2016 recruitment process following the 2014 TET. This led to the court case and subsequent protests.
Lawyer Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya represented the main plaintiffs in a case concerning the tampering of OMR sheets in a primary recruitment examination. During the hearing, Bhattacharya raised concerns about the tampering of the OMR sheets.

However, after leaving the court, he was confronted by a group of controversial primary teachers who chanted slogans and accused him of being responsible for the loss of job opportunities. Despite the protests, Bhattacharya chose not to engage with the demonstrators and left the scene. The police intervened to restore order and disperse the protesters.
