The Bar Association, a crucial platform for legal professionals, witnessed a vicious electoral competition with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claiming victories in five seats.
The event for the presidency saw Trinamool’s Ashok Kumar Dhandania stepping forward, reflecting the party’s strong presence and support within the legal community. As the results unfolded, it became apparent that the BJP’s Krishnendu Bhattacharya emerged as the front-runner for the vice-president position.

Soumik Gangopadhyay from Trinamool is poised to take on the role of bar treasurer, further enhancing the party’s standing. Meanwhile, there is a notable change in the position of general secretary within the Bar Association, transitioning from Trinamool to BJP. Shankar Prasad, a prominent BJP leader, is set to assume the responsibilities, succeeding Bishwarata Basumallik from Trinamool.
The Executive Committee Members election of the Bar Association, comprising nine positions, witnessed a significant tilt towards Trinamool, which emerged victorious in seven seats. Candidates affiliated with the BJP secured both positions allocated to their party. The outcome of this election has prompted deliberations within the legal fraternity, underscoring the prevailing contest between Trinamool and BJP for influence and representation.
The election has faced controversies, with a case in the Calcutta High Court adding suspense to the results. The court is expected to review the case next week and issue a final order before officially announcing the winners. The outcome of this case will decide the official winners, bringing clarity to the closely watched election.

Shankar Prasad, a prominent figure in the party, shared his perspective, stating-
“This victory in the general secretary position is a testament to the growing influence of the BJP in the legal arena.”
On the other hand, Trinamool, while celebrating victories in numerous posts, faces the setback of losing the general secretary position. The party, however, remains resilient, and its leadership looks forward to the court’s final verdict for conclusive results.
In the wake of these developments, the president-elect, Ashok Kumar Dhandania, commented-
“Our victory reflects the trust and confidence the legal community has placed in us. We are committed to upholding the values of justice and promoting the welfare of our fellow legal professionals.”
The BJP’s triumph in the general secretary position adds a new dynamic to the political landscape, with party members expressing enthusiasm for their increasing influence.
