RCB’s marketing head Nikhil Sosale was arrested over the Bengaluru stampede. His lawyer told the High Court the arrest was made on CM Siddaramaiah’s orders.
Bengaluru: Today, on June 09, the Karnataka High Court on Monday heard a petition filed by Nikhil Sosale, the Marketing and Revenue Head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who challenged his arrest made on June 6 by the Central Crime Branch (CCB).
During the hearing, Sosale’s lawyer submitted before the court that the arrest was made based on the orders of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The lawyer stated,
“The CCB sleuths arrested Nikhil Sosale, the marketing and revenue head of RCB, because Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered the arrest.”
As per the petition, Sosale was taken into custody at the Bengaluru International Airport while he was preparing to board a flight to Dubai.
His arrest was linked to an FIR filed in connection with the tragic stampede incident that occurred near M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The stampede, which took place during the ticket sale for an Indian Premier League (IPL) match, claimed 11 lives and led to public outrage and demands for accountability.

The arrest has raised questions about due process and the alleged political motivations behind the action. Sosale’s legal counsel argued that the arrest lacked proper justification and that the FIR did not contain concrete evidence directly linking Sosale to the incident.
The defense emphasized that the arrest was not only sudden but also done without proper notice or prior interrogation.
In court, the petitioner’s side maintained that Sosale was cooperating with the investigation and posed no flight risk.
They requested immediate relief and intervention from the judiciary to prevent misuse of state power in matters that require impartial investigation.

The case continues to draw attention as the state government, police authorities, and RCB management face scrutiny over the tragic events and the legal actions that followed.
The High Court is expected to further examine the legality of the arrest and whether proper procedures under criminal law were followed.
