Thiruvananthapuram: Today(on 14th March),the mother of the late S Aneesha, an Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) who passed away on January 21, has made an plea to the Kerala High Court, urging for a comprehensive CBI investigation into the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death.
S Aneesha, who served with commitment at the Paravoor Munsiff Magistrate Court in Kollam district, was a beacon of integrity in the judiciary. However, the shadows of corruption and harassment loomed large over her final days. Her mother, Prasanna, in a detailed legal plea, recounts the relentless mental torture inflicted upon Aneesha by Abdul Jaleel, the Deputy Director of Prosecution (DPP), and Shyam Krishnan, another APP, which she believes led to her daughter’s tragic end.
The petition meticulously outlines the severe instances of harassment that Aneesha endured. Notably, she faced undue criticism and was subjected to insulting messages in an official WhatsApp group for prosecutors, a platform meant for professional communication. This occurred after she was unable to attend a court matter due to health issues, highlighting a toxic work environment where illness was met with mockery rather than understanding.

The harassment escalated following an RTI application filed by a lawyer seeking attendance records of APPs, which led Jaleel and Krishnan to wrongfully accuse Aneesha of instigating the inquiry. The petition reveals-
“Thereafter DPP, Sri Abdul Jaleel and APP Shyam Krishnan started harassing and threatening the deceased by sending insulting and indecent messages against the deceased in the official Whatsapp group of the prosecutors so as to coerce her to make the lawyer withdraw from his move to unearth the corruption.”
The alleged conspiracy didn’t stop at digital harassment. A meeting was reportedly convened by Jaleel on January 19, merely two days before Aneesha’s death, where he is said to have verbally abused and threatened her in the presence of other staff members, further deteriorating her mental health.
Despite the registration of a crime by the police following Aneesha’s death, the petition accuses the authorities of neglecting the broader conspiracy at play, failing to thoroughly examine crucial evidence such as Aneesha’s suicide note, voice messages, and WhatsApp texts that detailed the harassment she faced.
The plea criticizes the superficial actions taken against the accused, such as the departmental inquiry and the suspension of Jaleel and Shyam.
