Delhi High Court has sought replies from the Centre, Boxing Federation of India, and others on a plea by Anurag Thakur and Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association about election issues. The matter is listed for hearing alongside a similar petition in August.

New Delhi: Today, On May 30, the Delhi High Court asked the Central Government and the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) to give their official response on a legal case filed by the Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association and former sports minister Anurag Thakur.

The case is about a disagreement over the elections held for the Boxing Federation of India.

Justice Mini Pushkarna of the Delhi High Court issued notices to the Centre and BFI, asking them to explain their position on the petition.

The judge also called for replies from the Indian Olympic Association and Ajay Singh, who was the head of the Boxing Federation of India when the elections were originally planned.

The court has scheduled the case to be heard on August 18, the same day when a similar petition filed by the Delhi Amateur Boxing Association will be taken up.

This means both cases regarding the boxing federation elections will be heard together.

This legal development is important because the Boxing Federation of India is the main body that manages boxing sports in the country.

Any dispute related to its elections can affect how boxing is governed and managed at both national and international levels.

The court’s decision to involve multiple parties including the Indian Olympic Association shows the seriousness of the matter and its wider impact on sports administration in India.

By asking all involved parties to respond and setting a date to hear both petitions, the Delhi High Court is making sure that the issue is resolved properly and fairly.

This case will be closely watched by sports authorities, athletes, and fans, as it may set important legal precedents for how sports federations conduct their elections in the future.

The court’s notice to Ajay Singh, who led the BFI during the time the elections were supposed to happen, suggests that the judges want to understand the circumstances and any possible irregularities related to that period.

The participation of the former sports minister Anurag Thakur in the case also highlights the political and administrative weight the dispute carries.

This ongoing legal battle reflects the challenges faced by sports bodies in India when it comes to governance, transparency, and proper conduct of elections.

The court’s involvement shows that the judiciary is playing an active role in ensuring that sports organizations follow rules and maintain fairness in their operations.
