Judge Arun Bhardwaj Appointed as the Next Registrar General of Delhi High Court

NEW DELHI: In a significant administrative development, Judge Arun Bhardwaj has been appointed as the new Registrar General of the Delhi High Court. He is set to officially take charge of the position from May 1, 2025, marking an important transition in the court’s top administrative office.

According to an official notification issued by the Delhi High Court, the Hon’ble Chief Justice has approved the appointment of Mr. Arun Bhardwaj, an officer from the Delhi Higher Judicial Service, to the role of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on a deputation basis. In this capacity, he will be attached to the office of the Registrar General and will assume full responsibilities of the Registrar General from the beginning of May.

Judge Bhardwaj is currently serving as the Principal District & Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge (Prevention of Corruption Act) (CBI). His tenure in this role has been particularly notable for presiding over several high-profile coal scam cases at the Rouse Avenue Court Complex, which houses courts dealing exclusively with CBI and other special cases.

This appointment follows the repatriation of the current Registrar General, Mr. Kanwal Jeet Arora, to his parent cadre, thereby creating a vacancy that Judge Bhardwaj is now set to fill.

The role of the Registrar General is crucial to the day-to-day functioning and administrative management of the High Court, involving coordination across judicial and administrative branches, management of court staff, and overseeing various procedural operations.

Judge Bhardwaj’s appointment is expected to bring a wealth of judicial experience and procedural insight to the post, especially given his background in handling sensitive and complex criminal matters under the CBI and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
