Uttar Pradesh: The Allahabad High Court has issued criminal contempt notices to ten advocates following a disturbing incident of assault on litigants at the district court premises. Additionally, these lawyers have been barred from entering the district court premises, a measure aimed at preventing further disruption of court proceedings.
Earlier, on April 30, the high court had already barred two lawyers from entering the district court premises due to their alleged participation in the same incident. The involvement of several advocates who entered the senior division court located within the district court premises on April 29 and subsequently attacked a litigant was a cause for serious concern.

The division bench, comprising Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Mohd Azhar Husain Idrisi, expressed their concerns stating-
“The seriousness of this incident cannot be understated. It is unacceptable for court proceedings to be disrupted to the extent that litigants are subjected to violent assaults within the courtroom, compelling the presiding officer to retreat to her chamber for safety.”
They further emphasized that such aggressive and violent conduct within the court poses a significant threat to the entire judicial system. The bench firmly declared that the court cannot remain a passive spectator to such events and that a clear and unequivocal message must be sent to unscrupulous individuals that such incidents will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severely.
Recognizing the critical need for ensuring the smooth functioning of the court, the high court called upon the commissioner of police, Prayagraj, to provide adequate police force as directed by the district judge. This measure aims to maintain a secure environment within the court premises, enabling court proceedings to proceed unhindered.
Furthermore, the court has directed the commissioner of police to appoint a responsible officer, not below the rank of assistant commissioner of police, to detail the criminal history of the individuals against whom contempt notices have been issued. The court also mandated that the status of the investigation or any actions taken regarding this matter be clearly disclosed.
