The Supreme Court of India announced the list of vacation benches that will be operational during the 2024 summer break. This announcement was made on May 2nd. The vacation benches play a crucial role in ensuring the continuity of judicial proceedings during the court’s vacation period.

NEW DELHI: On May 2: The Supreme Court of India released the schedule for the upcoming summer vacation, which will extend from May 20 to July 7. The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, has nominated twenty benches that will be responsible for hearing cases during this seven-week break.
This year’s vacation period is one week longer than the previous year, and there will be three Division Benches assigned to each day, except for one week in June.
The judges’ workload during the vacation period is often misunderstood, as they utilize this time to write judgments and perform other essential tasks. In this article, we will provide a comprehensive overview of the Supreme Court’s summer vacation schedule and discuss its significance.
Throughout the vacation period, the Supreme Court Registry will remain open from 10 AM to 5 PM for all officers and staff, except non-clerical Group-C members. The timing for non-clerical Group-C members is adjusted to 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM on all days, except Saturdays (excluding July 6), Sundays, and other holidays.
