Today, 14th April, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud paid tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar on his 134th birth anniversary at the Supreme Court, highlighting his enduring influence on Indian society. The ceremony, organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association. Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid respects to Ambedkar, highlighting his pivotal role in shaping India’s constitutional framework.

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal designer of the nation’s Constitution, on his 134th birth anniversary. The CJI presented floral tributes at the statue of Ambedkar within the premises of the Supreme Court.
The ceremony arranged by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA).
DY Chandrachud, remarked,
“Today holds great significance for us all as we celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the visionary behind our constitution and a catalyst for profound social change. His ideals remain as relevant today as they were during the drafting of the Indian Constitution.”
He further stated,
“We are honored to welcome Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon from the Supreme Court of Singapore, along with his colleagues from both courts. Their presence has added a special significance to our celebration as we commemorate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and offer our heartfelt homage to him this morning,”
Previously, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Dr. BR Ambedkar with floral tributes. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also paid respects to the Constitution’s architect at his statue within the Parliament premises.

On X, the Prime Minister posted,
“Tributes to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his Jayanti. Jai Bhim!”
In the video posted on X, PM Modi expressed,
“Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar serves as an inspiration to many from disadvantaged backgrounds. He taught us that one’s birth into wealth does not define success. In India, individuals from humble origins can aspire, strive, and achieve their dreams.”
He elaborated,
“In the past, there were efforts to impede their progress, with a belief that individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds wouldn’t advance. Yet, the paradigm of modern India is starkly different. This India is inclusive of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision, inclusive of the underprivileged and backward classes,”
Baba Saheb Ambedkar, who born on April 14, 1891, an Indian legal expert, economist, politician, and social reformer. He actively campaigned against social discrimination faced by Dalits and advocated for the rights of women and workers. He passed away on December 6, 1956.
Ambedkar excelled academically, earning doctoral degrees in economics from Columbia University and the University of London. In 1956, he led a peaceful protest in Mahad, fighting for the untouchable community’s right to access water from the town’s primary water tank.

On September 25, 1932, Ambedkar and Madan Mohan Malaviya signed an important agreement called the Poona Pact, which resulted in the depressed class being allocated 148 seats in the legislature, an increase from the earlier allocation of 71 seats. Additionally, Ambedkar one of the seven members of the committee responsible for drafting the Indian Constitution after the country gained independence.
In recognition of his remarkable contributions, Ambedkar posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990, India’s highest civilian honor. Baba Saheb Ambedkar peacefully passed away in his sleep on December 6, 1956, at his residence in Delhi.
