BREAKING | AAP Leader Satyendar Jain Granted Bail By Delhi Court Due to 'Delay in Trial' & 'Long Incarceration'

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi cabinet minister Satyendar Jain, who has been facing charges in a money laundering case.

The court’s decision comes after an extended period of detention, with the court highlighting-

“delay in trial” and Jain’s “long incarceration” as key reasons for granting him relief.

Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 30, 2022, over allegations of laundering money through four companies reportedly linked to him. Since then, he has remained in judicial custody, awaiting the progress of his trial.

The arrest stemmed from accusations that Jain was involved in money laundering activities, utilizing these firms to channel funds unlawfully.

The court, presided over by Special Judge Vishal Gogne, took into account the prolonged duration of Jain’s detention, stating,

“Considering the delay in trial and long incarceration of 18 months, and the fact that trial will take long to start, let alone conclude, accused is favourably suited for the relief.”

This statement underscores the court’s concern about the slow pace of the legal proceedings and Jain’s extended time in custody without any significant progress in his trial.

The bail decision marks a crucial point in Jain’s legal battle, providing temporary relief while the court proceedings continue. However, the court acknowledged that the trial itself may not begin anytime soon, further justifying the bail grant.
