First National Lok Adalat 2025: 3 Crore Cases Settled, Rs.18,212.23 Crore in Disputes Resolved

NEW DELHI : The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has reported a landmark achievement in the first National Lok Adalat of 2025, with the successful disposal of over 3.09 crore cases across 37 states and union territories. The event, held nationwide, witnessed a disposal rate of 79.01%, encompassing 2.58 crore pre-litigation cases and 50.82 lakh pending cases.

One of the most notable outcomes of this massive legal outreach was the total settlement value of Rs 18,212.23 crore, providing significant financial relief to individuals, businesses, and institutions engaged in legal disputes. The Lok Adalat played a crucial role in ensuring that litigants could resolve their matters swiftly, without undergoing prolonged court procedures.

Among the states, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of cases disposed of, reflecting the high volume of litigation in the state, while Jharkhand led in terms of efficiency, registering an impressive disposal percentage of 99.95%.

The National Lok Adalat was conducted under the leadership of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, who serves as the Patron-in-Chief of NALSA, along with Justice BR Gavai of the Supreme Court, the Executive Chairman of NALSA. Justice Gavai commended the efforts of the State Legal Services Authorities (SLSAs) for their tireless work in ensuring the event’s success.

“The disposal of over 3.09 crore cases demonstrates the commitment of the legal services authorities to ensuring justice reaches every individual in a timely and efficient manner,”

remarked Justice BR Gavai.

While the impressive numbers highlight the efficiency of the National Lok Adalat, NALSA emphasized that its impact extends far beyond mere statistics. By facilitating speedy settlements, the initiative helped alleviate mental and financial stress for litigants, restored strained relationships, and prevented cases from dragging on for years.

The Lok Adalat mechanism, known for its informal and conciliatory approach, played a pivotal role in ensuring that disputes were resolved amicably and equitably.

By preventing prolonged litigation, the initiative also eased the burden on courts, allowing the judicial system to focus on more complex legal matters. The success of the first National Lok Adalat of 2025 reaffirms the importance of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms in achieving accessible and efficient justice delivery for all.
