The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Assam Government on the bail plea of Shyamkanu Mahanta, an accused in the case linked to the death of Assam music icon Zubeen Garg. Mahanta, organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, approached the apex court after the Gauhati High Court rejected his bail plea.
The Kamrup Metropolitan District and Sessions Court ordered de-freezing of an accused’s bank account in the Zubeen Garg death case citing technical lapses, and fixed March 19 for charge hearing. It also rejected another accused’s plea seeking a Singapore Police report.
The Kamrup Metropolitan District and Sessions Court rejected bail pleas of three accused in the Zubeen Garg death case. Garg’s wife Garima sought continued custody until trial completion, as SPP Ziaul Kamar confirmed the next hearing is fixed for February 13.
