The NIA has requested the Delhi High Court to conduct a private hearing in its plea seeking the death penalty for separatist leader Yasin Malik. Malik, appearing via video from Tihar Jail, said he has been under “psychological torture” for three years awaiting the verdict.
Yasin Malik told the Delhi High Court that following his arrest in 1990, he was engaged by six successive governments, from VP Singh to Manmohan Singh, to discuss the Kashmir issue and explore possible resolutions.
The Delhi High Court has asked Yasin Malik to respond within four weeks to the NIA’s plea seeking to convert his life sentence into a death penalty in a 2017 terror funding case. The next hearing is scheduled for November 10.
