Today, On 3rd November, The Supreme Court agreed to hear a plea filed by AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi seeking more time for the registration of Waqf properties on the Centre’s UMEED portal. CJI B R Gavai assured, “We will give a date.”
The Supreme Court has agreed to list AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s plea seeking more time to register waqf properties on the UMEED portal. Advocate Nizam Pasha poetically argued that most of the allotted time was lost in waiting for the court’s decision.
Asaduddin Owaisi responded to judicial overreach allegations by saying the Supreme Court must examine whether a law violates fundamental rights, freedoms, or the basic structure of the Constitution. He added that such scrutiny is a constitutional responsibility.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the 2013 Waqf law for favoring extremists and land mafias rather than aiding ordinary Muslims, claiming it fostered disputes and fear. He praised the newly introduced Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, highlighting its focus on social justice and inclusion, alongside recent government reforms aimed at economic growth and stability.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticized Congress for its Muslim appeasement policies and their impact on public support. He announced plans for new legislation to limit Waqf’s unchecked authority, aiming for greater accountability and reform. Joshi called for the removal of Waqf Minister Zamir Ahmed Khan and urged transparency around property management practices in Karnataka.
