Madras High Court has urged an Australia-like law banning social media for children under sixteen, stressing that “as far as children are concerned, the vulnerability is high, so the parents’ responsibility is higher” while addressing online pornography access.
The Supreme Court said shelter homes for beggars must ensure a dignified life and not be treated as charity, directing all states and UTs to reform such facilities as a constitutional duty to uphold the right to live with dignity.
The Supreme Court called rehabilitation of homeless persons with psychosocial disabilities a “sensitive issue” and told the Centre to act urgently. It questioned the poor execution of existing mental health laws.
NEW DELHI: Today,(28th Jan): The Union government has decided not to act on the Supreme Court’s suggestion to create a separate law on bail. The government believes that the recent changes in criminal laws, especially the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, which came into effect in July 2024, already address the concerns about pre-trial detention and related issues.
