The Supreme Court has directed Thuraiyur Municipality to remove the seal from an IDBI Bank branch in Trichy and let it function until December 31, 2024. The branch, serving 20,000 customers, was earlier sealed over alleged unauthorised construction.
The Madras High Court has issued tough directions to ensure chargesheets are promptly taken on file and over 61,000 pending non-bailable warrants are executed without delay. Justice P Velmurugan warned that procedural lapses erode public trust and let accused evade justice.
Justice R. Mahadevan, born on June 10, 1963, in Chennai, was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Madras High Court in 2013 and became a Permanent Judge in 2015. He transitioned to the Supreme Court, marking a significant milestone as the first Chief Justice of the Madras High Court elevated in six years.
On Wednesday(22nd May), Supreme Court Justice M.M. Sundresh highlighted the rising societal trust evidenced by Chennai’s judicial infrastructure expansion. The new building adjacent to Madras Law College will house court halls, judges’ chambers, and administrative sections for the Madras High Court.
