The Madras High Court directed Tamil Nadu police officials to submit by July 29 a list of all pending cases against YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar, while hearing his plea alleging police interference in his media company’s operations.
The Supreme Court confirmed Felix Jerald’s bail and criticized the Madras High Court’s condition mandating the closure of his YouTube channel, stating it was “unwarranted and extraneous.” The ruling emphasized that while the closure requirement is lifted, other bail conditions remain in place following Jerald’s arrest linked to a controversial interview.
Today, On 30th August, The Chief Justice of India is set to hear a case against YouTuber Savukku Shankar for making derogatory remarks about women police officers. Shankar faces multiple FIRs for his comments, leading to legal actions and repeated detentions. The Supreme Court has intervened, emphasizing the importance of protecting individual liberties and free speech against misuse of preventive detention laws.

The court expressed concerns about the impact on public order and emphasized the importance of freedom of speech. It also advised the state to focus on eradicating corruption rather than suppressing dissenters.
