The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended five senior High Court judges for appointment as Chief Justices across Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Sikkim and Patna High Courts. The proposals will now be sent to the Union Government for approval and formal notification.
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Kempaiah Somashekar of the Karnataka High Court as the new Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, effective upon Justice D Krishnakumar’s retirement on May 21, 2025. Justice Somashekar has extensive judicial experience and is expected to provide strong leadership.
The President of India has transferred Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya from Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court to Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, following a Supreme Court Collegium recommendation. Justice Alok Aradhe is appointed as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Both appointments took effect as of January 14.
