The Supreme Court refused to interfere with its earlier judgment cancelling over 23,000 West Bengal SSC appointments, asking affected candidates to approach the Calcutta High Court. The Court reiterated that only untainted candidates may seek limited relief while ensuring “tainted candidates” do not re-enter the system.
In the SSC job scam case, the Calcutta High Court asked the CBI to reveal the exact source of its information on alleged job sales. “CBI must show the source of job scam info,” the court said.
Following the Supreme Court’s verdict in the SSC 2016 case, the West Bengal government has issued a fresh notification. “Not tainted” candidates can now apply to return to their previous workplace officially.
The Calcutta High Court permitted protesting teachers to continue their agitation but mandated a relocation to Central Park to alleviate commuter disruptions. Protester oversight will involve a limit of 200 individuals at a time, and provisions for health and dignity will be ensured. Police are instructed not to act against protesters without further court direction.
Today(10th Sept), The Supreme Court will hear on September 24 the West Bengal government’s challenge to the Calcutta High Court’s order invalidating 25,753 appointments. The bench, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, may face delays due to other hearings.
