The Supreme Court questioned the NIA for relying on speeches from the 1990s while opposing Shabir Ahmed Shah’s bail in a terror funding case. The Bench asked how decades-old material recovered in 2019 could justify his continued detention of over six years.
The Supreme Court remarked that stone pelting in Jammu and Kashmir is “not a very ordinary action” while hearing Shabir Shah’s bail plea. The court asked him to approach the J&K government for his detention order as NIA seeks more time to respond.
Yasin Malik told the Delhi High Court that following his arrest in 1990, he was engaged by six successive governments, from VP Singh to Manmohan Singh, to discuss the Kashmir issue and explore possible resolutions.
